The inventor of the Double D Rescue Sled System, Dane DeBoer, and his twin brother Dick, grew up in Brea, California. Dick & Dane are both PRO-SAR (NFPA 1006 & 1670) Swiftwater Rescue, Swiftwater Safety Institute (SSI). They have been in and around water all their lives. Growing up, they spent a lot of time going to the beach, sailing on their family sailboat, were competitive swimmers as kids, and became seasonal ocean lifeguards beginning the summer of 1983 at Huntington State Beach. They swam and played water polo at the collegiate level at Fullerton College and went on to be part of the Division II National Championship swim team at California State University Bakersfield. Dick and Dane are career ocean athletes and waterman, still competing in lifeguard competitions and winning several USLA National titles. A highlight was when they teamed up to win the 2010 USLA National Title in the Open Surfboat competition.
In addition to the aquatics background, Dick also ran x-country at California State University Bakersfield and was a professional triathlete in the early 90's. As a career CA State Parks Peace Officer/Lifeguard and EMT, Dick served as a rescue watercraft instructor and enforcement boating operator instructor, firearms instructor, firearms inspector and emergency medical responder instructor for Peace Officers and lifeguard training for CA State Parks.
Dane has extensive experience in several facets of public safety. He served as an Orange County Deputy Sheriff (2000-2005), a Los Angeles County Firefighter/Paramedic (2006-2020) where he was part of the paramedic training cadre, a rescue watercraft operator, and instructor for firefighter safety on fireboat 110 and land based shipboard fire fighting safety. Concurrently, Dane was a career waterman with over 20 years as a seasonal Ocean Lifeguard. Prior to his career with Orange County Sheriff, Dane was in industrial sales for a combined 15 years in the cordage/rope industry, custom design shapes & gaskets and industrial plastics.
Through his vast experience in the rescue world, Dane saw a need for a better way to effect swiftwater rescues when going through swiftwater training with the LACO Fire Department. After spending over 16 years developing, designing, and refining prototypes, Dane and Dick have teamed up with 30+ year aerospace machining and grinding professionals, David and Douglas Nilsen to produce the most effective swiftwater rescue platform ever developed.
David and Douglas Nilsen, who are also identical twins, owners of Accurate Grinding & Mfg. Corporation as well as owners and founders of Accurate Fishing. The twins are lifelong surfers, waterman and ocean fisherman. David and Douglas are inventors and designers of several products for different industries. Early in their careers, they designed and manufactured bikes, jet skies, golf landscape equipment, and a full line of aluminum clocks and cigar ash trays. The twins are very knowledgable in design and development in CNC (Computer Numerically Controlled) machines. In 1990 they formed Accurate Fishing and developed Accurate Gaffs. In 1997 they conceived the Accurate TwinDrag reel which was the first of its kind in the fishing reel world and patented the product & concept. The Accurate rescue reel was the missing and key component in the final design of the Double D Rescue Sled System. David and Douglas are successful businessman and family men.
