The rapid-response Double D Rescue Sled System delivers an innovative and game-changing advancement in swiftwater rescue capability. Designed, manufactured, and tested by professionals for professionals, it allows for a streamlined rescue team to safely reach victims more quickly than ever before.
The versatile Double D Rescue Sled System can be used as a stand-alone swiftwater rescue system, or to augment a team’s existing equipment capabilities as a force-multiplier, as a highly effective downriver safety device, for flood rescue support and humanitarian missions, as an ice-rescue platform, and more. Perfected by years of development and design, the system is American-made, manufactured with the highest quality materials, and is recognized by career water rescue professionals from around the world as the most effective rapid-response swiftwater rescue platform ever designed.
Our Vision - The inventor of the Double D Rescue Sled System is swiftwater rescue professional and accomplished waterman, Dane DeBoer, a retired professional firefighter/paramedic with the Los Angeles County Fire Department, California ocean lifeguard, and national lifeguard competition champion. Recognizing the critical need for improvement in swiftwater rescue rapid response equipment and techniques, Dane put together a professional team to design a state-of-the-art system with one goal in mind: to help save lives in the swiftwater rescue environment worldwide. While traditional swiftwater rescue systems and techniques typically require a sizable rescue personnel response, complex line rigging with cross river controls, multiple rescuers on water, and prolonged set-up time, the forward thinking design of the Double D Rescue Sled System offers an evolutionary advancement in equipment and techniques for a safe and effective rapid response rescue option that requires fewer rescuer in harm’s way and increases the chances for a successful rescue outcome.
Rapid Response - One of the innovations behind the system’s rapid response capability is a unique and highly maneuverable single line rescue sled that is fully controlled by the sled operator and utilizes a single line, same side of shoreline anchor affixed to an array of anchor point options such as trees, boulders, posts, bridges, railings, vehicles, or any other stationary object in the area. Utilizing a pendulum or kiting angle, the rescue sled’s design harnesses water flow energy to quickly maneuver to a desired location or to the opposite shoreline. Using a double pulley system mounted below the sled platform, the rescue sled operator can easily maneuver and steer using body positioning like using a bodyboard in the surf. While traditional swiftwater rescue systems rely on complex multi-line rigging systems controlled by shore based rescue personnel for movement and control of the rescue craft, the Double D Rescue Sled platform is designed to efficiently glide on the surface of moving water while providing the rescue sled operator direct operational control at all times.
Deck Mounted Rescue Reel - A revolutionary design feature of the Double D Rescue Sled platform is the specially engineered and highly reliable deck mounted “rescue reel”. Manufactured by Accurate Fishing / Accurate Grinding & Manufacturing Corporation specifically for water rescue, it qualifies as the world’s largest commercial grade fishing reel and holds 100 meters (328’) of high-strength 12-strand Spectra line. By using the reel’s heavy duty drag lever (like operating a common fishing reel) the sled rescue operator is easily able to free spool line in order to float downriver at the same speed of a victim or to quickly adjust the rescue sled to any position on the waterway. Whether moving to a fixed mid-channel object or an opposite shoreline, the rescue sled operator remains in full control of the highly maneuverable platform, and can quickly self-adjust to any desired location using the rescue reel’s stored line. An additional 100M (328’) of rescue line is stored with the anchor system package and can be quickly added when needed for a combined downriver reach of approximately 200M (656’). The sled operator can position the sled upstream by using the reel rewind handle in eddy flow or slower water flow conditions.
Our Team - The team behind the Double D Rescue Sled System includes Dane and his twin brother, Dick (another career water rescue professional), who have joined forces with another set of identical twin brothers, David and Douglas Nilsen of Accurate Fishing / Accurate Grinding & Manufacturing Corporation who bring decades of industry-leading engineering and manufacturing expertise to produce the most effective swiftwater rescue sled system ever developed.
